Caring consumers have helped Click Energy, Northern Ireland’s newest electricity supplier, boost the provision of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for frontline staff during the battle against COVID-19.
Click Energy raised over £3,000 in donations within four weeks which will be used by Independent Health and Care Providers (IHCP) to distribute much-needed PPE to its members throughout NI.
IHCP is a membership organisation with members from independent private, charity, not-for-profit and church affiliated organisations. The independent sector in NI employs over 30,000 people to provide care to around 15,000 residents in care homes and sheltered housing and a further 23,000 people in their own homes every week.
Damian Wilson, Chief Executive of Click Energy, praised the generosity of the public response to the PPE fundraising appeal which was launched on their website, clickenergyni.com on 24th April 2020.
He said: “We have been overwhelmed yet again by the generosity of Click Energy customers who donated on the portal provided while topping up their electricity online, together with all those who also called our freephone number to make a personal donation to support our special appeal in partnership with IHCP.
“The urgent need for additional PPE for frontline staff has really struck a chord with people during this global pandemic and as a local company, we feel very proud to have the support of such caring consumers in towns and cities all over Northern Ireland.”
Pauline Shepherd, Chief Executive of IHCP which oversees the distribution of PPE to care providers across NI, described the total amount donated through the Click Energy appeal as “brilliant news”.
She said: “This money will be used to purchase PPE for IHCP members and is greatly appreciated. From the start of this pandemic the demand for PPE has escalated world-wide creating significant challenges in the both supply and escalating costs of protective equipment. We are immensely grateful for all donations and wish to express our sincere appreciation to Click Energy for initiating the recent appeal and all those who contributed.”
Click Energy previously raised funds for Diabetes UK Northern Ireland and Action Cancer. The electricity company was established in November 2015 and has approximately 30,000 customers.
