Top authors and illustrators make KPMG Children’s Book Ireland shortlist

A shortlist capturing some of most exciting children’s authors and illustrators from throughout the island of Ireland has been announced at the KPMG Children’s Books Ireland awards launch.

The KPMG Children’s Books Ireland Awards identify, honour and promote excellence in books for young people by authors and illustrators from the region and are celebrating their 30th year in 2020.

The awards offer a total prize fund of €16,000 across six awards and are the most prestigious on the island of Ireland, offering one of the few opportunities for national and international recognition of local authors and illustrators.

The shortlist announcement was made at a special event held in The MAC theatre in Belfast in front of invited guests including pupils from Ashfield Boys School, St Dominics, Victoria College and Malone College.

Johnny Hanna, Partner in Charge of KPMG Belfast, said: “Reading is the foundation of education and the importance of good reading skills for all kids across Northern Ireland cannot be overstated.

It is one of the keys that unlocks the door to improved education and future employment opportunities”.

The six winners will be announced on 19th May at an awards event in Dublin.
