Sumer Northern Ireland has been named Mid-Tier to Large Practice of the Year at the inaugural Belfast Telegraph Accountancy Awards, recognising the firm’s continued growth, investment in its people and innovative approach to professional services.
Led by Managing Partner Brian Clerkin, Sumer Northern Ireland supports more than 2,000 clients across Northern Ireland and the UK, offering a range of services including audit and accounting, tax advisory, corporate finance, forensic accounting, internal audit and specialist business advisory.
This award comes at a time of significant progress for the firm, which secured 45 new clients, strengthened its leadership team and expanded its specialist services. Investment in specialist knowledge and skills has also enabled Sumer’s Belfast-based Innovation Tax Relief team to take a leading role in delivering research and development (R&D) services across Sumer Group, currently supporting 135 clients UK-wide.
Alongside business growth, Sumer Northern Ireland continues to bolster its people and workplace culture. Four Senior Managers were promoted to Associate Partner during the year, while 15 graduates and one Higher Level Apprentice joined the firm. A further six employees were supported in pursuing additional qualifications.
Speaking about the award Brian Clerkin, Managing Partner at Sumer in Northern Ireland, said: “This award is a fantastic recognition of the hard work and commitment of our team. We were up against some very tough competition, but we’re delighted to have taken the top spot in this category.
“Over the past year, we’ve been dedicated to growing our client base, prioritising our people and developing our specialist services, while building on the trusted relationships that have been at the heart of our businesses for more than 30 years. As part of the wider Sumer Group, our access to the technology and expertise has enabled us to offer more for our clients, whilst retaining the local knowledge and personal approach they value.
“With businesses in Northern Ireland facing unrelenting challenges with geopolitical uncertainty, rising costs and maintaining a skilled workforce, there has never been a more important time for professional services to rise to the challenge in supporting businesses to thrive and grow.
“As we look to the future, we’ll be continuing to focus on growth, embracing innovation and creating opportunities for our people, our clients and the Northern Ireland business community.”
