Is Nissan about to reverse out of the UK?
Nissan’s giant Sunderland plant is at the heart of Britain’s car industry, accounting for one in every three UK-built cars: some 415,000 Qashqais, Jukes and Leafs last year.
But how long that success story will continue is increasingly in doubt as the plant faces multiple threats, with Britain leaving the EU foremost
“Civil servants are talking about Britain’s car industry as being ‘lost’,” says one industry insider. “Their language reflects what senior ministers are saying.” Another source adds: “Nissan going is being talked about as a case of when, not if, unless something huge happens”.

UK won’t implement EU’s contentious digital copyright law
The UK may borrow some aspects of European Union law after Brexit, but the approach to digital copyright won’t one of them.
Universities and Science Minister Chris Skidmore has indicated that the UK won’t implement the EU’s Copyright Directive once it’s out of the Union on January 31st.
This will let British internet companies and users avoid contentious aspects like Article 13 (renamed Article 17), which requires that sites check all uploaded content for copyrighted material. The EU had softened the requirement to allow memes and other content that offers “quotation, criticism, review, caricature, parody and pastiche,” but this would eliminate the requirement entirely in the UK.

UK finance sector ready to wave Brexit white flag amid ‘fish for finance’ talk
LONDON (Reuters) – Britain’s finance sector is losing hope of securing even basic access to European Union markets from Dec. 31, as talk that the EU wants UK fishing rights in exchange draws the industry into a political struggle between the bloc and its departing member
The fishing industry is valued at about 169 times less than financial services and official data shows it employs just 8,000 people compared to more than a million in finance.
But regaining control of Britain’s rich fishing waters was a totem for Brexit campaigners.
Consultants EY said this week that around 7,000 financial services jobs will move from Britain to staff new EU hubs.
