Northern Ireland environmental charity, Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful has launched its new wellbeing campaign, Healthy Oceans, Healthy Minds – a month of online content, dedicated to encouraging key actions people can take that can contribute to the health of our waterways and ultimately our own health and wellbeing.
Karina Robinson, Project and Events Officer at Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful, said: “It feels that week by week as our world continues to change, Covid-19 still consumes our conversations and thoughts. Although the current restrictions are undeniably necessary to flatten the spread of the virus itself, the impact of this new and enforced way of living on health and wellbeing is significant – with levels of worry, stress, and anxiety already showing upwards trends. Whilst nothing is certain, it is fair to anticipate that this ‘period of lockdown’, as we’ve come to know it, will be repeated in future months to tackle the spread of the disease.
“That’s why we created our new online ‘festival’ – Healthy Oceans, Healthy Minds. The public can view the calendar of what’s coming up and sign up now at www.liveherelovehere.org/healthyoceanshealthyminds
“Through the campaign we want to re-connect people to our seas, waterways and outdoor spaces, to show the impact that a healthy marine environment can have on our health and wellbeing.
“We have had the pleasure of collaborating with experts from across Northern Ireland and further afield to develop an exciting calendar of online activity. We have loved every second of planning this campaign and hope that the public find it valuable and inspirational. We need now, more than ever, to create a society that values the outdoors, and understands that if we look after it, it will give back to us in more ways than we could imagine.”
