The world has become increasingly digital. Most organizations are changing their business models to stay relevant. On the road to digital transformation, a cloud-native strategy is one of such innovations transforming the future of technology in small and large businesses.
Contino partnered with Tech London Advocates and Global Tech Advocated to come up with a top 20 list of top innovators who have truly made a success in their industries through digital transformation change and you can find more information about the report by visiting www.contino.io/insights/top-20-dx-innovators. This article digs into the key ingredients of their success:
Jon Braithwaite
Jon joined the largest food and support services firm in Uk & Ireland, Compass Group, to focus on building teams and partnerships to deliver technology that transforms the experience for both customers and employees, across business sectors (~6000 units). Braithwaite developed an extensive cloud architecture and data strategy that led to the digitization of key systems, in a way that they can convey business processes in simpler technology and encourage development.
Using three keys of development, he built a great team with expertise and experience to lead the business forward, by being outward-looking and being inspired by customers and partners to get important feedback necessary to embrace digital transformation opportunities.
Debra Bailey
Debra joined O2 in March 2019 and has led the company through several projects aimed at digital transformation. Before she joined, O2 was in the middle of a complex digitization process that involved introducing a new 5G network to replace the major tech stack of the company. She studied the transformation project from a strategic perspective and saw a shortcoming in the complete separation of the IT and business units of the company.
She influenced major changes in the operating model to align technology with business outcomes. Debra’s structure brings focus to the people and processes behind the businesses as much as it does on the technology. With the merge, gaps are limited, speed-to-market has increased and accountability is assured.
Shakeel Butt
Shakeel Butt works in Green Flag, an insurance-based roadside assistance company. He joined in 2018 to lead the complete front-to-back digital transformation using cloud-native strategies. Shakeel described Green Flag’s wide operating system as “clunky, expensive and time-consuming”, and proposed serverless, API-driven, and code-only cloud-native platforms to increase their continuous delivery on demand.
He has built a team of 100 strong tech individuals who have adopted the scaled agile for enterprise (SAFe) framework, as well as the entire company. Shakeel believes that it is important to design the future of IT by building according to cloud-native architecture that allows for longevity and flexibility. Over the past three years, he has doubled the operating profit of Green Flag with technological transformation set to offer a truly differentiated service to customers.
Fumbi Chima
After spending two years as the CIO of Adidas in Germany, Fumbi has joined BECU, a Seattle-based credit union to fill the same role. Her time at Adidas saw her facilitating a product-based cloud supported system as a strategy to stay close to the customer. She believes that technology serves as an enabler to understand, anticipate and serve the customer.
Using data as a strategic tool to be correctly interpreted by employees as a product to support digital transformation. This resulted in Adidas creating more personalised products for consumers and an ability to pivot towards change in an ever-changing world. Fumbi also established product teams fully integrating business and technology to improve accountability and drive growth.
Matt Davis
Matt helped to establish an Open Banking platform as a part of Lloyds Banking Group in 2017. A major part of his life work involves implementing cloud-native strategies, even in environments that face regulatory scrutiny. His cloud-native development expertise is dedicated to digitizing and streamlining customer experience at Lloyds.
He helped in the development of container technology in the public cloud, one of the many projects he initiated to prove that the cloud-native architecture is a secure means of creating real value. This strategy and many more others implemented by Matt has led to Lloyd’s highly secure and powerful digital capacity.
