Students of St Killian’s College have taken part in a workshop with St Vincent de Paul and created a window display for Vincent’s in Cushendall.
The innovative window display was born out of an invitation for Seana Lynn, Manager of Vincent’s in Cushendall, to host a workshop with students at St Killian’s College in celebration of the theme of International Women’s Day, Give to Gain.
Speaking about the experience, Seana said: “We had a very creative and fun workshop. The students learnt about the ethos and work of St Vincent de Paul and the charity’s impact in the local area. We then set to work upcycling tshirts with the ‘Give to Gain’ theme and I used their creations to provide a perfect window display for our Vincent’s shop in Cushendall.”
The event was so successful that Seana has been invited back to the college for another workshop before the summer break.
“After the event, some of the students called into the shop one Saturday and said they could ‘shop here all day’ before purchasing some spring fashions”, added Seana.
The Society of St Vincent de Paul is an international charity and the largest voluntary charity in Ireland. SVP members work in all communities to support people whatever their background, who are experiencing poverty and social exclusion, promoting self-sufficiency and working for social justice.
Last year SVP spent approximately £5.5 million to help those experiencing poverty in Northern Ireland, responding to tens of thousands of calls for assistance from members of the public.
