Two Northern Ireland charities have received donations totalling £10,000 from Amazon. Cinemagic and Flourish have received £5,000 each following nominations for support from Amazon employees.
Cinemagic educates, inspires and motivates young people looking for a future in the film and television industry. The charity offers young people the chance to develop creative skills and explore new opportunities such as viewing new films from around the world with young consultants helping to programme films for the annual Cinemagic Festival, as well as offering community outreach and educational activities.
Flourish aims to provide a brighter future for people affected by human trafficking. The charity’s trained caseworkers help survivors to develop a long-term care plan, aiming to meet the material, physical and psychological needs of each individual.
Beth Knight, Amazon in the Community Europe lead, said: “We’re hugely supportive of the work Cinemagic and Flourish do to help young and vulnerable people across Northern Ireland. Both charities have an incredibly positive impact on the wider community and we’re pleased to support them with this donation.”
Joan Burney Keatings MBE, CEO from Cinemagic added: “It’s incredible to receive this donation from Amazon. On behalf of all the staff and volunteers at Cinemagic, I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone at Amazon for their support and recognition of the work we do with young people in Northern Ireland.”
Community donations are one of several ways in which Amazon supports the communities in and around its operating locations across the UK. Amazon provides students, teachers and parents with free computer science and STEM education programmes and has teamed up with charity partner Magic Breakfast to deliver more than six million healthy breakfasts to children at risk of hunger in disadvantaged areas of the country.
