Menopause awareness moves up the workplace agenda for St David’s Poultry Veterinary Team in Dungannon

Fourteen veterinary professionals have taken part in a specialist menopause awareness education session led by Registered General Nurse and experienced Womens’ Health educator Anne McGale

Menopause awareness in the workplace was firmly on the agenda at St David’s Poultry in Dungannon, where 14 veterinary professionals took part in a dedicated awareness training session delivered by Registered General Nurse (RGN), Menopause Educator and experienced Trainer Anne McGale.

The interactive session was designed to improve understanding of menopause, its symptoms and the potential impact it can have on women’s health, wellbeing and working lives. It also gave delegates practical information and resources to help build confidence around a subject that can still be difficult to discuss openly in professional settings.

For employers, menopause is increasingly an important workplace issue. Greater awareness can help managers and colleagues recognise the challenges some women may experience and encourage a working culture in which informed, constructive conversations can take place.

During the St David’s Poultry Team session, Anne McGale provided education on all aspects of menopause, creating opportunities for discussion throughout. Dedicated time at the end allowed the Vets attending to raise questions and explore issues in greater depth.

The training was well received by delegates, who highlighted both the quality of the information and the approachable way in which the subject was presented.

One delegate described the session as “very insightful”.

Another said: “Anne was very approachable and provided a comfortable space to have open discussions and ask questions. She also provided great resources that I was previously unaware of.”

Anne McGale, founder of Menopause Wellbeing NI, which has delivered menopause awareness education sessions to over 1,000 individuals – both male and female from across Northern Ireland, Ireland and the US as well as advanced CBT training on managing menopausal symptoms said: “Good menopause education is about much more than simply listing symptoms. It is about giving people reliable knowledge, the confidence to talk about menopause and practical information they can use in their everyday and working lives.”

“It was a pleasure to work with the team at St David’s Poultry in Dungannon. The level of engagement and the questions from delegates demonstrated the value of creating a comfortable, informed space where people can learn and speak openly about menopause.”

The session forms part of a wider move towards improving menopause awareness in the workplace, with organisations recognising that education can support employee wellbeing while helping colleagues and managers develop a better understanding of the menopause transition.

For sectors such as veterinary medicine, where skilled professionals often work in demanding and highly responsible roles, accessible workplace education can provide an important foundation for better conversations and informed support.
