As part of its Planet Passionate Communities programme, team members from Kingspan, a global leader in high-performance insulation and building envelope solutions, with a base in Portadown, took to the River Bann last month, to conduct a clean-up of the river and its surrounding area.
As one of the largest employers in the area with approximately 400 members of staff at its Portadown site, Kingspan launched Planet Passionate in 2019, which is a sustainability programme made up of 12 ambitious targets addressing the impact of the company’s business operations and manufacturing on four key areas of energy, carbon, circularity and water. The clean-up of the River Bann is the latest local project conducted by the organisation, which has already completed over 100 global initiatives and has made a 42% reduction in waste sent to landfill since 2020.

During the clean-up, nine members of Kingspan staff, from various departments, cleared over 30kgs of rubbish from a section of river, collecting 85 plastic bottles, 31 glass bottles, 45 cans, one bicycle, one tricycle, one bicycle wheel, one plastic bucket and one backpack alongside many more items.
