Advice NI has announced the appointment of Fiona Magee as its new Chief Executive Officer, following a competitive recruitment process.
Fiona brings significant leadership experience across Advice NI and Northern Ireland’s independent advice landscape. She previously served as Deputy Chief Executive Officer before taking up the role of Interim Chief Executive Officer in 2025.
Her experience within the organisation has given her a strong understanding of Advice NI’s diverse membership and of the vital role the independent advice network plays in ensuring people across Northern Ireland can access free, confidential, impartial and rights-based advice on issues including social welfare, debt, housing and employment.

Fiona takes up the role as demand for independent advice continues to grow. People are navigating more complex systems and sustained financial pressures, while local advice organisations are planning for long-term sustainability, accessibility and impact. In 2024/25, the network dealt with more than 288,632 enquiries, helping people recover over £146 million in unclaimed benefits.

The Board is confident that Fiona will bring the leadership and focus required for the next stage of Advice NI’s development.”

Advice NI represents and supports independent advice services in Northern Ireland, working with members and partners to improve provision, inform policy and ensure the experiences of people seeking advice are heard by those making decisions. Fiona’s appointment comes as the Department for Communities progresses Advice Refresh: A Northern Ireland Support Framework for Independent Advice and Debt Services. Advice NI continues to engage with this work, bringing members’ experience and expertise to discussions about how advice and debt services can meet the needs of communities across Northern Ireland.

Independent advice is about more than resolving an immediate problem. It helps people understand and exercise their rights, access their entitlements, challenge unfair decisions and regain control when circumstances become difficult. In the face of growing complexity and persistent inequality, that role is essential.”
