Choice Housing celebrates one of their longest established sheltered living schemes

Choice Housing marked a significant milestone at its Bangor sheltered living scheme celebrating forty-five years of Tughan Court, which is located on the Bloomfield Road.

Choice staff joined tenants to mark the occasion, including Lilly Fleming who has been at Tughan Court for thirty-three years and looks forward to celebrating her one hundredth birthday early in the new year.

The scheme – which recently saw an investment of £300,000 from Choice as part of their upgrade commitments – was originally opened in November 1980. Tughan Court is closely connected to many local amenities, ensuring residents maintain their independence through accessing shops, healthcare services and other facilities that can also encourage interaction and social engagement outside of the scheme.

Catriona McCann, Area Manager for Choice, said: “Reaching the forty fifth anniversary is a milestone to be proud of, and it was lovely to see so many tenants come together to mark the occasion. Tughan Court is very important to the community it serves, and the tenants it is home to.

“A key commitment from Choice is to ensure the long-term sustainability of their properties. Investment in the scheme ensures the property not only keeps up with the latest energy efficiency technology but that residents can enjoy the latest modern upgrades to their own homes and communal areas.

“I would like to make special mention to our Active Tenant, Nancy Green, who goes above and beyond for her fellow residents to ensure they are engaged and involved in a range of activities at Tughan Court,” she added.

Tughan Court comprises of forty-two one-bedroom bungalows alongside a single one-bedroom apartment, designed to provide independent living for those aged 60 and over with support available when needed.
