A landmark housing scheme on Belfast’s Lisburn Road, which has provided both general needs and sheltered accommodation for more than 40 years, is set to undergo a £2.3 million transformation.
Owned and managed by Choice Housing, The Belgravia will benefit from significant investment to modernise its facilities, enhance residents’ living experience and increase its overall capacity.
The multi-million-pound investment will completely modernise the building’s shared spaces, creating a fresh and welcoming environment for residents. In partnership with McCusker Contracts, the project will also expand the scheme by remodelling an underutilised space to create two new sheltered living flats.

This £2.3m project reflects Choice’s ongoing commitment to upgrading its existing properties, ensuring high-quality, sustainable homes for residents now and long into the future.
“Over the years, our residents and dedicated staff have built a vibrant, close-knit community that truly makes The Belgravia a special place to call home. This investment allows us to deliver a modern, comfortable environment for our current residents whilst opening our doors to welcome two new households to the scheme,” he added.
Other upgrades include fully refurbished communal lounges, laundry facilities, guest rooms, and restrooms. Crucially, the project also funds vital infrastructure improvements, enhancing fire safety, water quality systems, security and digital access controls across the property. Further enhancements will be made to the central courtyard, transforming the existing space into a more relaxing and tranquil area for residents to enjoy.
Originally constructed as a hotel back in 1873, the historic building operated until 1979 before being destroyed by a fire. Rebuilt and reopened in 1985 as a sheltered housing scheme, the property currently comprises 24 self-contained apartments; 16 single-bedroom and eight two-bedroom units.
Situated on Belfast’s vibrant Lisburn Road, The Belgravia remains one of the area’s most sought-after housing schemes. Its popularity stems not only from its prime location – surrounded by local shops, boutiques, restaurants and coffee houses – but also from the strong sense of community fostered by long-standing tenants and dedicated Choice staff.
Work commenced in June and is scheduled to be completed by Summer 2027.
