Children are back at their desks but how did parents manage childcare during lockdown?

Aoife Hamilton, from Employers For Childcare explains why the charity needs to hear parents’ experiences of childcare, and work, during COVID-19: “Childcare was very much in the public eye during COVID-19 and we heard our politicians reinforce just how important it is to the economy, and to society more broadly.

“But now we need to present policy-makers with the evidence directly from parents – what they are telling us every day about how they found accessing, and paying for childcare, over the past unprecedented few months, and how this has impacted on their ability to work.

“We are calling on all parents in Northern Ireland to take five minutes to complete this short survey. So if you have struggled with the challenges of working from home, while home schooling and caring for children – we want to know. Alternatively, if your childcare needs have changed as result of COVID-19, we want to hear that too.

“We will use the information given to us by parents to inform our work in campaigning for increased investment in our childcare infrastructure and better support for families with accessing affordable childcare”.

All those who complete the survey, will be entered into a draw to win a £50 shopping voucher. The survey is available on the Employers For Childcare website www.employersforchildcare.org, and closes on Friday 2 October.
