Is Mazda CX-5 a Good Buy

The Pursuit of Excitement

Mazda’s “soul of motion” styling breathes new life into the mostly mundane and fiercely competitive market of crossover SUVs. Where other car manufacturers are playing it safe, Mazda has decided to use the CX 5 as a canvas to highlight streamlined motion, and invite you to a next-level driving experience with a uniquely impressive interior. There is very little bad to say about this nimble cross-over, but we can put together a comprehensive list of pros and cons.

Mazda CX-5 Price

At under $30,000 (around £25,000) for the base model, the Mazda CX-5 price has set an extremely competitive price point for the amount of fun you get. Deemed “Best handling crossover” by Edmund’s, the CX-5 is sure to put a smile on your face as you zip in and out of corners, only to surprise you every time you open the door and stare at luxury comfort and styling. The 2021 model even boasts one of the largest touch-screens in its class at 10.3 inches, making navigation an absolute breeze.

Where it’s Lacking

Not necessarily the worst fuel economy by a long shot, 25 city and 31 on the highway puts the CX-5 right around the average for cars in this category. Also, the four-cylinder engine, while perfectly capable on city streets, tends to lose a little luster when accelerating at highway speeds. Still, the base model is offered in FWD and AWD to perfectly match each driver’s individual needs, at a more than reasonable price. The unique versatility of this car requires a few sacrifices, including cargo space. Definitely perfect for a family weekend, but a little shy of the room needed for a grand tour coast-to-coast.

Conclusion

There is a little bit to love for everyone in the Mazda CX-5, whether you are a weekend warrior in search of the next adventure, or in need of a reliable daily driver. Unfortunately, Mazda’s aggressive approach to style has not lent itself to the rest of what makes a car stand out. The CX-5 seems to be casting an extremely wide net out to sea, bringing in a large variety of interested parties from every demographic thanks to it’s incredibly competitive price for the quality inside and out. Keep in mind the five-star crash rating, and you’ve got just about the perfect car for a small family, or someone who likes to pack up and hit the great outdoors every now and then.

The Mazda CX-5 is without-a-doubt one of the best-looking cars in this category, and certainly feels responsive to the road when it counts. So if looks, comfort, and affordability are paramount, you need look no further, but if you need something more capable in any one category, you may be better off shopping around a little while longer. The Mazda CX-5 is a good buy in every sense of the word, well-rounded and polished at every angle, it’s up to you whether or not it can be considered a great buy.
