Vaping at Work: The Dos and Don’ts to Maintain Positive Professional Relationships

Are you a frequent vaper? If so, you may have wondered whether your vaping habits are annoying the people around you. While vaping in your own time in your own space is perfectly fine, you don’t want to subject others to vape clouds, especially if they find them unpleasant!

So, how do you vape at work without compromising professional relationships? By following these dos and don’ts.

Do: Ask Where You Can Vape

Whether it’s a brand-new job, you’ve just taken up vaping, or you have realised you’ve never asked before, it’s important to receive permission on where you can vape. Ask your manager directly. Often, there will be a dedicated outdoor area for smokers and vapers.

Don’t: Vape Inside (especially in small spaces)

Unless you have been told directly that vaping inside is okay (and everyone in the building is on board), then it’s always best to head outside to vape. Vaping inside might be okay in certain environments like your own home, but that’s not the case in a professional space. Even if your co-workers also vape, you don’t want to make a bad impression on a potential client who visits!

Do: Keep Your Vaping Equipment Out of Sight

It’s generally best to keep your vaping equipment out of sight. Whether you have a customisable vape, some brand-new, smooth 50 50 vape juice, or spare vape batteries, keep them in your drawer or in your bag. The main reason for this is to keep a professional look, as some people may find having vaping equipment splayed around the workplace to be unprofessional. It may also be necessary to keep them away to adhere to safety rules.

Don’t: Assume Everyone is Okay with Vaping

Some people who vape assume that everybody around them is okay with vaping. That is understandable if they have never been told otherwise, but often, people who don’t enjoy vape clouds don’t always speak up. The best way to get around this is to never assume every person in your vicinity is fine with you vaping nearby and asking them if they’d prefer you to move away!

Do: Use Your Breaks for Vaping

Coworkers may become irritated if you routinely leave work to vape. While discreetly taking a few vape breaks is considered okay, doing it too often can cause rifts. To avoid this, use your dedicated work breaks for vaping.

Don’t: Blow Vape in the Direction of Others

Whether you are near coworkers or workplace visitors, never blow vape in a person’s direction – even if they are a vaper themselves! This is seen as highly disrespectful and can reflect poorly on you and your professionalism. When vaping, aim away from anyone in your vicinity.

Vaping at work doesn’t have to be hard. The key here is to be respectful of the people around you by going outside to vape, using dedicated breaks, and keeping your vaping equipment out of sight during the workday. By following these dos and don’ts, you can vape at work while maintaining great professional relationships!
