How to Be Happier at Work: 5 Helpful Suggestions

Do you want to be happier at work? Then this article is going to be very useful for you.

Globally, around 3 billion people are in active employment. However, not all of these people are happy in their jobs.

If you fall into this category, you’ll be glad to know that it’s possible to be happier at work. It doesn’t matter what job you do – whether its office based or outdoors – these 5 suggestions will give you a major boost.

1.   Make the most of your breaks

During an average working day, you probably take around 2 or 3 breaks.

Whilst on your break, you should make the most of every second. After all, you have the perfect opportunity to reduce any stress you might be feeling and ultimately liven yourself up for the rest of the day.

Here are some activities you should try on your work breaks:

  • Go for a walk outside
  • Visit a nearby coffee shop
  • Grab your smartphone and play some of the best online casinos au
  • Do some sketching in your notepad
  • Put your earphones in and listen to music or podcasts

If you can do some of these activities with co-workers, then that’s even better.

2.   Smile more frequently

Smiling really can make you happier. So, the next time you’re in the office or conducting a Zoom call with clients, try to be upbeat, friendly and smile more often. This will spread positive vibes whilst making you feel good inside. Plus, it will make those around you feel better, too. After all, a positive working environment is better than a negative one!

3.   Be more active

You might not know this, but physical and mental health are interconnected. This means that if one isn’t right, then there’s a pretty good chance that the other will be negatively affected, too. Therefore, it’s essential that you keep your body active whilst at work. Whatever you do, don’t stay slumped in your chair for 8 hours straight – it’s a recipe for disaster. Before you know it, your back will hurt, and your posture will suffer.

The best solution is to frequently stand up and stretch, as well as do some basic exercises during your breaks. Also, if it is possible, you could request to have a standing desk rather than a sitting one (which is actually becoming a major trend in a lot of offices).

Being active at work is good because:

  • It reduces tension and stress in your muscles
  • It increases energy levels
  • It releases endorphins

For added benefit, you could also go to the gym in the morning or after work.

4.   Reward yourself for completing tasks

At work, you probably have a handful of tasks you need to complete every week. This might be speaking to customers or converting leads into sales. Whatever your specific tasks are, you should reward yourself for completing them. For example, you might treat yourself to some new clothes or a brand-new smartphone – you get the idea.

Rewarding yourself is good because it causes positive emotion in your brain, which then forms a link between completing tasks and self-reward. Essentially, this will then motivate you to keep completing tasks as you move into the future.

5.   Help your co-workers

Helping your co-workers is another great way to be happier at work. Even if it’s just lending 5 minutes of your time to give them some advice on a project, it will show that you care. Remember, helping others is a scientifically proven way to feel good about yourself!
