It’s a tricky time for businesses this year, and noticing any business trends that emerge from the current market conditions will be what makes or breaks a lot of investors and businesses themselves. Some businesses seem more resistant to turbulent market conditions than others, but that isn’t to say they are recession proof, as no business truly is. However, some businesses can still turn a profit even in the most turbulent of markets.
One such business that seems to weather the storm better than others is the gambling industry. Online gambling companies have seen a surge in their profits over the last decade or so, and despite fairly unfavourable market conditions during this time, their profits have exploded. Now that the European markets are contracting, these companies are not seeing the downturn in the profits that some may have forecast.
Gambling online can be enjoyed in a variety of ways, and some casinos now accept all manner of different currencies as payment. Using online casinos for real money transactions is still a hugely popular market worldwide, and it doesn’t look like it will slow down any time soon.
Remote work will continue
This has been the focus of many companies’ business models for the last 10 years. However, now that companies are seeing a rise in running costs, such as electricity and gas, they aren’t as keen on having workers back in an office full time. Several studies have shown that productivity from employees working from home has increased too, so there is an additional incentive to harness this and monetize it properly. In the long run, many employees prefer hybrid roles where they can work from home at least once weekly.
Larger focus on e-commerce
This is something that has been increasing year on year for well over a decade. Companies such as Amazon have mastered this trend by operating solely online. They have been able to streamline profits into effective cost-cutting for the customer, and can spend more time and money focusing on the effectiveness of their online operation. Traditional companies paying rent for land-based shops and offices are disadvantaged over companies like Amazon.
Jeff Bezos went from operating out of a garage to the world’s richest man in a little over two decades. This was due to his ability to identify that customers would prefer to shop online if it was cheaper and more convenient. Therefore, he put all his energy and time into ensuring he was maximizing both of these business characteristics.
He was able to focus on these two things due to his emphasis on online operations. More companies are seeing the benefits of operating this way, with many shutting down offices and shops to divert attention online.
Customer service will need to be more personalized
This isn’t the case for businesses that are not customer focused. However, for those that are, they need to ensure that they are offering a service that goes above and beyond that of any of their competitors. One way to do this is by offering a personalized service that people do not forget quickly. There needs to be more emphasis on a personal touch, due to the multitude of companies that now operate because of the rise of the internet.
In the 1990s, localized businesses could identify and develop a customer base for their particular type of industry. However, once the internet became available, they were not just competing against the shop down the road or other businesses in their city; they were operating in a worldwide market.
The rise of technology further emphasizes this. This includes innovations such as the internet of things, which will further fuel the already massive competition between online businesses. As a struggling business, one way to counteract this is to ensure you add a personal touch to your customer interactions. You want to ensure you have memorable exchanges with customers, so that no matter how many competitors exist online, they will always want to come back to you. This is because you care about them as people and not just as customers.
We have only touched on a few examples in this article, and other business trends are prominent at the moment. Plenty of them focus on remote working, which we have looked at briefly, and emphasize digital services, which we have also discussed. As ever, the primary focus for businesses is to maximize profits. By identifying trends early and capitalizing on them properly, you can put your company in the best position to continue making a profit.
