Choice Housing announces Ulster University Scholarship winners

Three Ulster University students have received scholarships from Choice Housing, one of the largest independent housing associations in Northern Ireland. The ‘Choice Scholarships 2023’, in partnership with Ulster University, provide much needed support to those who face financial, social, or logistical barriers to furthering their education.

Since its launch in 2019, 12 students have received support through the initiative which is aimed at encouraging those who are less likely to progress to higher education with the provision of financial assistance. The three current students, who will each receive £1,000 financial support, are all in the first year of their Undergraduate degrees and are studying BSc Hons Business Studies, LLB Hons Law with Criminology, and BA Hons Photography with Video.

Choice Group Director of Corporate Services, Lawrence Jackson said, “We have continually developed strong partnerships with education providers as part of our ongoing commitment to supporting individuals and local communities accessing opportunities. This partnership goes beyond the delivery of affordable and quality homes, aligning with our commitment to investing and developing thriving communities in which we invest in.

“This scholarship is another example of that commitment, aiming to support those who may face barriers to accessing education which could make a significant difference to their long-term future. I wish our three recipients all the best with their studies and look forward to seeing them succeed in whatever field they choose.”

The successful undergraduate students were required to meet a range of widening access and participation criteria established specifically by Ulster University and the scholarships were open to students from across the university’s three campuses.

Scholarships help maximise the life chances of people from all backgrounds by enabling their participation in transformative university experiences, which will help them realise their potential and equip them to make their personal mark on the world.

“Every year we see the positive impact scholarships have on our students’ lives, and we are grateful to Choice Housing for their long-term support for our students.”
