Linen Quarter Business Improvement District (LQ BID) has partnered with Business in the Community (BITC) to deliver climate action training for businesses in the Linen Quarter area.
Funded by LQ BID and delivered by BITC, the Climate Action Programme training provides support for firms to kick start their climate transition journey. By completing the sustainability initiative companies can gain a clear understanding of the business case for climate action, take stock of where they are on their journey and make an ambitious commitment to reducing their impact.
As part of the four month-programme businesses are required to undertake Carbon Literacy Training, followed by bespoke workshops to devise their Mitigation Strategies andjoin the Climate Action pledge.
River Ridge, NI Chest, Heart and Stroke (NICHS) and Cleaver Fulton Rankin are amongst the latest businesses to complete the training programme and will be formally signing a pledge to reduce their carbon footprint. LQ BID funded 75 per cent of the training costs for members NICHS and Cleaver Fulton whilst River Ridge funded their training in full.
Charlotte Irvine, Finance and Contracts Manager at LQ BID said: “Despite the challenges of the past year, the BID has continued to deliver services to members, such as enhanced street cleaning and a focus on community safety. As businesses strive to build back better, the case for taking action on climate change has never been stronger.
“As part of our ambition to make the Linen Quarter cleaner and more sustainable, we are partnering with BITC to support a cohort of members in becoming more climate aware and reduce their climate footprint.”
Business in the Community, Managing Director Kieran Harding added: “Business in the Community is delighted to be partnering with LQ BID to deliver the Climate Action Programme which challenges and supports businesses to address the climate emergency and reduce their scope 1, 2 and 3 greenhouse gas emissions.
“BITC is the responsible business network for over 220 firms in Northern Ireland it is our goal encourage members to identify practical ways to make positive changes and reduce their impact on the environment.”
Funded by business-led investment, LQ BID operates under several core themes, aimed at improving the district, and promoting the Linen Quarter as a destination, as well as a desirable place to work or invest.
The training offered through the Climate Action Programme is just one element of the Bid’s Sustainable District Programme, it also includes the Green Energy Scheme which encourages members to switch to 100% renewably sourced electricity, a cycle friendly accreditation for employers and the Re[act] Festival including workshops, live talks and international webinars around common themes on energy, public empowerment, transport and innovation.
