An outside space where Belfast people can enjoy nature will continue to thrive during the Autumn and Winter after Power NI made a £300 donation to the charity that manages it.
Awarded through the company’s Helping Hands scheme, the donation has funded the purchase of horticultural fleece to protect winter sensitive plants; compost and seeds for winter vegetables; and essential materials for a replacement raised flower bed.
The work will be carried out by volunteers from Donegall Pass Community Forum who work to improve the wellbeing of residents – and strengthen community engagement – by delivering initiatives, events and support services.
“We are very grateful to Power NI for supporting our community garden,” said a charity spokesperson. “This funding will help us create a beautiful, welcoming space where local people can connect, enjoy nature, and spend time together.”
Power NI employee, Natasha Stewart added: “I am delighted that Power NI has supported our community garden; it is wonderful to see funding that helps to bring people together, create a welcoming space, and encourage our local community to get involved.”
Established back in 1996, Donegall Pass Community Forum also plays a crucial role in bringing people together, tackling social isolation and creating opportunities for residents of all ages to participate in community life. By doing so, this creates an attractive, vibrant and safe community, which celebrates the area’s history, present and future.
The funding was awarded through Power NI’s Helping Hands programme, which supports local charities and community organisations making a positive impact across Northern Ireland. Ashleigh O’Neill, Senior Marketing and Communications Executive at Power NI, said: “At Power NI, we are committed to supporting the communities we serve across Northern Ireland.
“Through Power NI’s Helping Hands programme, we are proud to support Donegall Pass Community Forum and the valuable work they do in the local community. We hope this funding will help them continue to make a positive difference to the lives of local residents.”
