The Pocket brews up fresh coffee success at Belfast’s Flatiron

One of Belfast’s independent specialty coffee shops and eateries, The Pocket, is brewing up fresh success after opening its second space in one of the city’s historic and iconic buildings, The Flatiron.

Located on the ground floor on Upper Church Lane Belfast in its newly refurbished high-spec address, The Pocket brings all the charm of its Queen’s Quarter branch to a new brand of coffee and food lovers while also adding 10 new staff to its 12-strong team.

Built in the 1860s, the famous former waterside warehouse – already home to some of Belfast’s fastest-growing creative businesses – has been expertly restored by local owner and investor Wirefox into a high-quality office space over four floors, incorporating retail at ground-floor level, providing a new statement on one of the city centre’s major gateways.

Adjacent to Victoria Square and famed for its distinctive ‘flat-iron’ shape, creative design companies Big Motive and Fourum are already located within the building, which is also home to one of the city’s most famous pubs, Bittles Bar.

Powered by rave reviews for the choice and quality of its food and coffee, The Pocket is the brainchild of South African coffee enthusiast and café culture expert Richard Evans and his wife and business partner Bailey.

“Belfast is an incredible up-and-coming city which is seeing massive investment from abroad as well as increased local investment.  As a growing local, independent business, we’ve built a strong following and we’re delighted to be working with Wirefox as we continue to build our brand and further invest in this great city,” Richard said.

Passionate about using ethically-sourced single origin coffee and offering compact, regularly-refreshed menus using local ingredients for breakfast and lunch, Richard and Bailey opened The Pocket on University Road in 2015.

Wirefox Asset Manager, Anton Dummigan, said: “We’re excited that Richard and his team have chosen the Flatiron as part of this next-phase expansion and by the uniqueness and distinctiveness of the brand and experience which he brings to the building and area. We’re delighted to extend our best wishes for their continued growth and success.”
