It has been ten years since work began to construct one of Belfast’s most-popular and well-respected nursing homes, Park Manor, and this week the award-winning nursing celebrated its milestone birthday with a new name and symbolic Oak tree planting ceremony.
The newly branded Parkmanor Oaks, located in the leafy outskirts of Dunmurry, Belfast, is owned and operated by the Macklin Group, a family-run business, who have been successfully running care homes in Northern Ireland for over 33 years.
Speaking at the recent birthday event, Gareth Macklin, director of the Macklin Care Homes explains: “We are absolutely delighted to formally announce our new name and celebrate all our achievements over the past ten years.
“Parkmanor Oaks, as it will now be known, strengthens our position as a leading care home, in West Belfast, with a commitment to continuing to offer the very best care and experience possible to our residents who have chosen to enjoy their lives with us here in their formative years.”
“Since we opened back in 2010 we are so proud of the 75-strong team we have assembled, many of whom have been with us since day one, of the care we provide to over 78 residents, the activities they have created and our vision and commitment to continuously improving and evolving in any way we can.
“We had a wonderful birthday event today with the residents, their families and staff. We planted an Oak Tree in the gardens to symbolise all the wonderful people we have had the privilege of caring for in the past, for the fantastic work the team have done and indeed for our new residents who will join us in the coming years and our growth which is yet to come.
“We are also delighted to launch a new schedule of activities which further develops the residents experience here at the home. Our dedicated activities coordinator will be introducing Laughter Yoga in the coming weeks which is a complete, mind, body and soul workout which is not only great fun but helps cardiovascular activity, elevates mood is hugely social and promotes a positive mental attitude.
“This will complement our already packed schedule which includes YOPI (Yoga for Older People), pet therapy, inter-generational work and music therapy.”
“Our partnership with Age NI continues with a number of events in the planning stages to help raise vital funds for the charity and get our residents involved in the fun and fanfare.
“We have also just partnered with a new charity MYMY – Mind Your Mate and Yourself – (Previously known as PIPS) is a voluntary and community sector counselling organisation, with extensive experience in suicide prevention and intervention. We will be working with the charity to raise money and awareness about suicide prevention in Northern Ireland.
“We look forward to our next stage of growth, enjoyment and fun and engaging activities with our residents and staff who work so hard, daily, to ensure our excellent standards are maintained and that our residents care is put first and foremost. I would like to take this opportunity to thank them on behalf of the family for helping us to get to where we are today.”
