Donaldson Legal Consulting was established by lawyer Alison Donaldson in 2005. The firm provides specialist financial trading documentation, negotiation and associated services to financial institutions, corporations and asset managers and currently employs 25 people.
Fieldfisher and Donaldson Legal Consulting had already partnered up on specific client engagements through Fieldfisher’s award-winning Condor Alternative Legal Solutions platform which was launched in January 2017. Condor is an innovative new business division of Fieldfisher which offers clients a flexible and customisable range of price-efficient and process-efficient services, partnering with best-in-class service providers and delivered in a single “law firm wrapped and quality-assured” package.
Guy Usher, head of Fieldfisher’s derivatives group and a co-founder of Condor said: “This strategic tie up with Alison’s business makes perfect sense. It enables us to go to market with yet another service offering for clients. It also gives the firm a new base from which to develop a centre for providing lower cost legal and documentation resources on work and projects generated by the Fieldfisher network.”
Alison Donaldson, managing partner, DLC LLP, said: “I am very excited about the prospect of working alongside Fieldfisher. I had probably taken the Donaldson Legal Consulting business as far as I could on my own and I knew the Fieldfisher derivatives team having worked with them successfully on a number of client projects. ”

DLC was a pioneer in providing nearshore support for trading documentation to financial institutions, being the first business to set up locally to provide such an alternative legal service. Starting with only three people, Alison has built up the team over the past 12 years, working closely with Brightwater to tap into the local legal market.
DLC provides skilled, client-facing services relating to the negotiation of financial legal documents, including ISDA master agreements, commodity agreements, brokerage documentation as well as supporting its client’s internal netting review programmes from a nearshore location.
